TIDEFLAT, back to the harbour

TIDEFLAT · shooting script
One gravel street of tarred black houses with turf roofs and white window frames, running toward snowy mountains. A yellow house on the right, a fish-shaped weather vane on a roof, a notice board and a shop window on the left.

4EXT. FLATEYRI – THE STREET – DAY4

A grey day, soft and cool.

One street, harbour to mountain road. Tarred black houses, turf roofs, white frames. Garðar's house is the yellowest.

The co-op window reads FLATEYRI COOPERATIVE, in gilt. Its notice board is three notices deep.

On Bjarki's roof a cod-shaped vane points west, into the wind. PIP, a puffin in a red jumper, sits on a ridge with all the rope.

Doors open a crack before anyone reaches them.

THE TOUR

Leave the harbour alone for a minute and a half, or ask Garðar on the street, and he gives you the tour from a crate, through a brass speaking-trumpet.

He shows you the gilded lettering on the co-op, the cod on Bjarki's roof pointing west, the bracing west wind, the lighthouse beam crossing left to right, the Organ, the lighthouse and the hall; then his voice carries on alone, inside the machine and over a model Flateyri.

The tour stops at a very small door in the model's harbour wall: Members only. After you. Any key or touch stops the tour.

THE HALL, THE WORKSHOP, THE GREENHOUSE and ERLA'S PORCH. THE TOUR, if Garðar is asked. THE HARBOUR is back along the shore. PULL BACK shows the set.
